Another movie screening will be held at E-center on March 9/18:30 “Several Interviews on Personal Matters” (1978) – a film by Lana Gogoberidze, a representative of the Sixtiers in Georgian cinema. This is one of those rare cases in Georgian and Soviet cinema when the director saw and showed the reality from the women’s perspective, while not stereotyping a woman’s personality and experience. The social reality in the film is shown in the example of one woman, her family, and her work, but this reality is not one-sided and placard. We see this reality as a complex product of the totalitarian past and as a result of specific gender policies of the Soviet government. During the discussion after the film, it is these aspects that will become the subject of our discussion. Comments to the film will be provided by Tamta Tatarashvili, an expert in gender studies, a PhD researcher at the Faculty of Socio-Cultural Anthropology at Ilia State University, and a participant in the seminar “Gender in Film and Screen Culture”.
