Welcome to our new project ‘Reading Circle’!

Would you like to read and discuss scripts, fiction, philosophical, academic texts, and articles referring to social sciences and humanities? Or maybe you want to improve your English speaking skills, as well as the ability to discuss complex ideas? Our new intellectual activity is a perfect combination for both of these goals. To join our Reading Circle you need to speak English to at least level B Level and have a general interest in the topic.

At our first meeting, we will read a few pages from a play written by Henrik Ibsen – ‘A Doll’s House’. Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright who cared deeply about social issues. We will read the beginning script(with expression) and try to understand why contemporary philosopher Philipp Petitt used this play as an example to explain the idea of republican freedom.

We recommend you to check at least the first two pages of the script beforehand to find out if it’s suitable for your English Level.

The moderation will be done by Asya Kramer, who has a BA in English and linguistics and an MA in political theory at EUSPB. Asya fell in love with politics during Covid times and after starting her master’s she got interested in republicanism, feminist political theory, and critical sociology.

Join us at the backyard of the Common Ground (6 Baghramyan, Yerevan) at 7:30 p.m.

Price: a glass of wine or the equivalent for the Common Ground’s hospitality and to set our mood right

Participation in the Circle is free. Please register in advance․
