Biography
Stanislav Serhiienko is a doctoral researcher at Marburg University. His work focuses on twentieth-century Eastern European history, with particular attention to state socialism, memory politics, and intellectual history. He also serves on the editorial board of Commons: Journal of Social Criticism (Ukraine).
Serhiienko holds an MA in History from Humboldt University of Berlin and a BA in History from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. His publications include work on Endre SĂk and debates on race in the Comintern, on the politics of remembering the GDR past after 1989/90, as well as reviews and essays published in Ukrainian, German, and English-language journals.
Serhiienko is currently developing a project on Marxist critics in post-Stalin Soviet Ukraine. He examines how Ukrainian Marxist critiques of “actually existing socialism” combined the languages of class struggle and national emancipation, and how these thinkers reworked “Soviet Marxism” from within. Drawing on ego-documents, KGB materials, and samvydav, his research explores the ambivalences of Soviet subjectivities in Ukraine, the intellectual history of dissident Marxism, and the complex relationship between socialism, dissent, and anticolonialism in post-Stalin Ukraine.
