Series of Public Lectures from the Institute of the Rule of Law EUSP Took Place in Yerevan

On March 14-16, Yerevan hosted a series of public lectures by the researchers of the Institute for the Rule of Law (IRL) at the European University at St. Petersburg. Since 2009, the researchers of the Institute have been engaged in empirical research on law enforcement practices in modern Russia. IRL studies law as the behavior of people, using the entire arsenal of the methods of modern social sciences. The main research dimensions of the IRL are the sociology and anthropology of law; interaction between law and society; judicial decision-making practices; law enforcement practices in the state apparatus; execution of judicial power and abuse of judicial office; legal culture and professional ethics. IRLโ€™s operating principle is to conduct studies on the basis of unique data sets: databases of court decisions of criminal and arbitration courts, databases of inspections on legal entities, surveys and interviews, observations in jury trials, and many others.
IRL visited E-Center in Yerevan as a part of a cooperation effort to present the results of the Instituteโ€™s latest research. Ekaterina Khodzhaeva discussed methodological aspects of making research in โ€œclosedโ€ institutions with colleagues in the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. Ruslan Kuchakov, Ksenia Runova, and Denis Saveliev presented to the students of the Russian-Armenian University the state of regulation in Russia, the social adaptation of former prisoners, and the readability of legal acts. In the E-Center, Dmitrii Serebrennikov delivered a public lecture on the introduction of new technologies to police practice. A set of lectures finished with a public talk by Vladimir Kudryavtsev on the specialization of a career criminal.
